
Sunday Morning
CVPC Sunday School: – is an age-appropriate reading and study of the Word of God with the intention of discerning and applying Biblical principles in our lives. The open-ended lessons are taught using a rough workshop approach and follow the basic topical scheme:
- Sept/Oct – God’s Creation
- Nov/Dec – Preparation and Birth of Jesus
- Jan/Feb – the Teachings of Jesus
- Mar/Apr – Easter
- May/Jun – The Early Church
- Jul/Aug – Old Testament Heroes
Topics are also guided by student interest and the direction of discussion to allow the Holy Spirit to have the final say. Contact Jose Jones for Opportunities: Teachers, sharing talents or craft making abilities, computer room and game-time supervision.
Help Wanted
Children and Family CHRISTIAN EDUCATION is looking for Sunday School Teachers. Please consider answering the call to teach our children during the upcoming Advent workshops: “The Song of Mary” and “The Gift of Jesus”. We will have a curriculum Pow-Wow on October 10th (Song of Mary) and November 14th (Gift of Jesus). Contact Jose Jones to express your interest or get more information.
[top]Wednesday is Family Night and You're Invited
Family Nights: – Wednesdays are set aside for families to enjoy food for the body and food for the soul. At Family Night we share a meal, a song or two, games/crafts, prayer and the Word of God. Special topics include: Parenting Workshop series, Discipleship for teens and adults, God’s Plan for Families, etc. Family Nights are supplemented through CE committee fundraisers and free-will offerings. Special Programs
King's Kids Choir: – is a music and voice training for children (Preschool to 6th grade) which prepares them for participation in the CVPC music ministry and worship. King’s Kids helps to develop voice/diction and personal confidence while emphasizing important Biblical truths through song. The children rehearse weekly and perform six to nine times a year during worship service and/or special church events. Contact Jose Jones for Opportunities: Bring your children/grandchildren, promotion among family and friends.
Vacation Bible School: – is an outreach program of the CVPC Christian Education committee to our neighboring community. VBS is an opportunity for children to come together and learn about God. The curriculum uses music, drama, games and crafts as vehicles to share about God’s love and his plan for our salvation. Contact Jose Jones for Opportunities: Individuals can help through being a teacher, helping in meal preparation, by donating food items or through monetary gifts.
Annual Carnival: – a community outreach event to honor the presence and value of children. This all-church event invites all CVPC members and friends to strengthen relationships and to make our presence known in this community. The Carnival is one of several fundraiser events which help sponsor CVPC Christian Education programs. Cambios con Fe (Changes with Faith): – is a cooperation between CVPC and San Diego State University, through a grant from several health related community agencies, whose intent is to develop healthy eating habits, increase physical activity and community activism in a manner consistent with Biblical principles of family and the body temple. Jolene Espinosa is CVPC’s representative to the South Bay Faith Advisory; a group of Chula Vista churches who participate in the project. Contact Jose Jones for Opportunities: Garden plots in the community garden, tending/watering the garden, exercise classes. You may also contact Jose Jones on Sundays and have him introduce you to Jolene Espinosa for more information.
Participation in Worship: – in addition to King’s Kids Choir, children are invited to participate in several dramatizations that are done during worship service throughout the year as well as participate as liturgists, Acolytes (candle lighters) and ushers. The children are also called to a Children’s Sermon before heading off to Sunday school.
